Dressage Competitors have recently been thrown into having to deal with even more confusing circumstances concerning riding in competitions run under FEI rules.
The governing body decides what is allowed, and what is not allowed under different bit classifications judging them using their own interpretation of the manufaturers product designs. They then decide the effect the relevant design is likley to have on performance outcomes during competion taking account of the manufacturers reasoning for the design if they decide to do so . The objective being to control the riders scope to secure a competition advantage from a bit design over another competitor with a different bit.
The issue it seems is that some individual show judges and stewards are adding their own interpretaion to what should be allowed or not!
We are now seeing an unlevel playing field developing from certain officials ground level summary judgements on these matters depending on which event you are competing at, and peversely a complete breakdown of the bitting standards they are trying to enforce.
Is your horse's bit dressage legal for competitions under FEI Rules?
Below is the current list of bombers bits approved by the FEI for the Bomber Bits range of products as of 25-05-24 provided to us directly from Bombers Bits Head Office South Africa.
That said, the advice at the current time to riders is to check with the stewards and judges at the event you are attending prior to preparing for competition to prevent you using a bit that was accepeted at the last event and is not at this one, until there is better direction from the ruling body provided to its show officials and representatives.
