The New Cable Bit Range from Bomber Bits South Africa

Bombers have successfully developed this new range of bitting options which are designed to relieve the nutcracker action found in single link jointed bits which is usually overcome with the addition of two links and some sort of lozenge or plate located in the middle of the bit acting across the tongue area.

Now Bombers have taken things a step further and completely removed the links that join the bit together.

Links are usually a necessary evil for bit designers as they serve little purpose in helping improve any desired comfort aspirations once in the horse’s mouth, but they have to be used to connect things together and so minimising link size has been the best the bit designer can do. Until now that is, as bombers have successfully designed the cable bit range to remove the links and limit the nutcracker action extensively.

The cable bit offers a level of independent rein movement on each side of the horse’s mouth, particularly useful when the shoulder is coming through and upwards within the horses movement as the horse becomes more collected.

Removal of the links also takes away the potential for quite painful pinch incidents when the link closes during use. The horses tongue can be badly affected, anyone that has tried keeping a finger on the link joint as it closes would be well aware of how much it can hurt, and so this is not recommended.

The cable bit removes this pinch potential as all horses have their own way of using their tongues to either protect the bars of the mouth like a big soft cushion for the bit to lie across, by using the tongue to attempt to push the bit away, or control how quickly the bars of the mouth are contacted, and often by drawing the tongue back to evade the bit altogether.

Removal of the links creates a new accommodation for the horse to explore. It is more comfortable applying less pressure in all areas while bringing pressure over the tongue area without any pinch potential. This is designed to help lower the horses head carriage and is particularly useful for horses that have a high head carriage, as the horse is more confident in seeking a contact which brings it onto the bit instead of above the bit for better control.

The cable bit has a level of spring back action that assists the rider with a faster release of the rein pressure when offered by the riders hand, and this provides further enhancement to the riders ability to execute more precise communication with the horse.

As with all bits the cable bit should be checked regularly for signs of wear or damage from use.

Cable strength is 90kg maximum.
