The Bombers Bits Eggbutt Ultra Comfy Lock up provides the benefits of an Eggbutt cheek piece. It prevents pinching of the lips and give a slightly more solid feel against the side of the face.

It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The bit action in release is slower and this helps to stabilise a busy horses mouth.

In addition, the Lock Up snaffle removes the nut cracker action of the conventional snaffle. This means it will bear less pressure on the horses bars as the bit will lock at a certain point to prevent a total collapse pinching the sides of the mouth. At this point of lock up the bit becomes similar to a straight bar over the tongue area and provides a strong stopping action that the horse learns to respect while the ergonomic design allows for the horse to be forewarned by the pressure that has been arriving onto the tongue prior to this moment which has been building on the bars and lips of the mouth. Interestingly the horse copes with this far better than a snaffle that continues to collapse onto the bars and lips of the mouth which must become unbearable as well as in-effective after a certain point of resistance by the horse ending with a fight against the riders hands to free its self.

Therefore, the Lock Up provides a softer option initially before further action is placed over the tongue, so that during normal riding the tongue is released from such pressure due to the shape of the bit providing more tongue relief than a conventional snaffle, although it still applies tongue and bar pressure when the reins are taken up, with the straight bar action over the tongue acting as something in reserve if the action to slow down or stop is not respected. The other aspect of this bit shape is that it assists improve horses take the contact more readily due to its softness and this releases tension from the jaw line and the horse becomes softer in the riders hand.

A strong horse (excitability aside) is usually a horse that is tense and fighting against the rider and so it is not something stronger we need to win the fight, it is more desirable to seek better comfort for the horse with improved bit action to release the horse from tension and the strong horse suddenly disappears from the riders hand and softens into a comfortable weight of contact when we are successful. 

The Bombers Eggbutt Ultra Comfy Lock up bit is a wonderful piece of horse bit design that is very successful at doing this.
