The MBO4 hanging cheek snaffle is a nice bit for certain horses. There is a belief by some people that the hanging cheek bit design in use brings some poll leverage action which is not true. To create a poll action we need to have a shank below the side ring piece or in place of it as the fulcrum creating poll pressure needs to act on the bit below the side ring piece. However the MBO4 low port hanging cheek is much less busy in the horse mouth than say a loose ring bit and with a young horse or a well schooled horse it is often accepted very well. The Myler MB04 low port hanging cheek bit is specially good for horses that are sensitive to poll pressure or head shakers where the horse prefers the bit to be stable in its mouth and not move around too much while the port design leaves space for the tongue to sit comfortably under the bit relieving the tongue from undue squashing as the rein is taken up and the port design tilts forwards and downwards onto the tongue, while quickly releiving the tongue of pressure as the hand is softened and the horse is rewarded by its compliance of the riders instructions to slow down or when the horse is being encouraged to bridle up further creating more impulsion. Under these conditions the horse is working with a stronger contact but a more comfortable one given the tongue space available, and so the horse will remain relaxed and more engaged with the riders request for a greater amount of carried impulsion in its movement.
